For the first time Mercedes-Benz and AMG presented a vehicle with an aluminium chassis and body: the SLS AMG Coupé. The new SLS AMG Roadster is manufactured in exactly the same manner and features significant weight savings over the traditional steel construction.

The entirely newly-developed bodyshell of the new SLS AMG Roadster and Coupé consists of a lightweight yet torsion-resistant aluminium space frame. This exclusive design combines intelligent lightweight principles with outstanding rigidity thus allowing uncompromisingly dynamic handling. It goes without saying that the aluminium space frame meets all Passive Safety and body quality requirements specified for a new Mercedes-Benz vehicle.
